Geek

Saw this train car at Clark’s Trading Post:

and it made me think of SSL certificates. I think that qualifies me as certifiably hopeless.

Dan Grover - Speedy Recovery!

Our friend and sometimes subcontractor Dan Grover had surgery today, and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Dan posted a pre-surgery photo today, and finally it makes sense how he’s so efficient at his work:

All the best, Dan.

Comcastic Irony

From the chuckle department:

With Comcast High Speed Internet with PowerBoost, you’ll be able to get maximum enjoyment of the FairTax Internet Seminar without the headaches of dial-up or slower DSL. Call 404-COMCAST to get Comcast High-Speed Internet for just $19.95 per month for six months.

With Comcast’s recent problems with blocking clients’ Internet access, the choice of phone numbers is either unfortunate, hilarious, or meaningless, depending on whether you’re at Comcast, suffering from Comcast, or simply unaware of HTTP.

And Lo, Upon the Seventh Day, Dvorak Switched

John Dvorak is using a Mac and recommending them to his friends.
Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies, rivers and seas boiling, forty years of darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes, the dead rising from the grave, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria.

Fake Steve Jobs has a good point - what do you do when your best contra-indicator turns in your favor?

Google Takes a Bath

Glen passed on the fact that Google Maps will happily route your journey beyond the boundaries of roads if you ask it to. Their time estimates are probably a bit aggressive, just as they are for driving directions. I wonder if they’re doing proper Great Circle calculations to minimize your trip.
